'Just Plant Round It'
Royal Horticultural Society bronze award winner
Malvern Spring Flower Show May 2005
Size: 18 m diameter or 324 m˛
According to Phillip 'Shapes came first and then the repetitive circles and arcs create
a balanced effect. I've tried to create a planting style that will suit as many tastes
as possible'
Gardening guru Alan Titchmarsh was impressed with what he saw and commented 'It's scary
how far Phillip has come in such a short time'.
The focal point of this show garden is a pond, which is just 45 cm deep (18 inches).
The black dye gives the illusion of depth, it mirrors the sky and the surrounding planting
beautifully and the dye stops the light penetrating the water thus preventing algae
from growing - creating a low maintenance water feature.
Borders are herbaceous and under planted with spring bulbs to include tulips, alliums
and over 500 Hosta's. Vibrant delphiniums, striking foliage and Phillip's signature piece,
the turf balls add to the drama. The design also features stepping stones, and a Rill
running around the perimeter of the garden. The trees are in the centre are silver birch
'Betula Pendula', 'Jackmantii'.
The design will suit most modern gardens in full or in part and due to its accurate
geometric design can be scaled up or down to suit individual needs.
